Charles and Ramona Shawver, Mexico

Ramona and Chuck Shawver were recommissioned for missionary service during the annual meeting of the American Baptist Churches of Los Angeles in May 2008. In early June they arrived in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico, where they currently serve as interim coordinators of the Mayan Intercultural Seminary (SIM). The Shawvers’ responsibilities include academic and administrative coordination at the seminary and teaching both at the seminary and through the distance programs offered to rural indigenous congregations in the region. In the summer of 2009, Chuck and Ramona will move to the campus of the Baptist Seminary in Mexico City. There they will serve in a variety of instructional and pastoral roles in the seminary’s residence program, its urban outreach and its rural ministries with the churches of the Council of Indigenous Campesino Evangelicals of Mexico (CICEM).
